Rolex

Rolex, the brand that needs no presentation, deserves a special place on our list, not only for its qualitative timepieces but also for its incredible innovations. The company was founded in 1905, in London, by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis, and it is now the world’s largest high-end watch brand.

Rolex created the first waterproof wristwatch, in 1926, the Oyster, followed by the first wristwatch waterproof to 100 meters in 1953, Oyster Perpetual Submariner. Also, in 1945, Rolex released the Datejust, the first wristwatch with an automatically changing date on the face. These are just a few examples of its accomplishments, and, no matter which type of watch you choose, your collection will not be complete without one Rolex timepiece

Patek Philippe

While Rolex is an extremely famous brand, Patek Philippe seems to be popular among those truly in the known. Founded in 1839, the Swiss brand is now the last family-owned independent watch manufacturer in Geneva, and it is definitely one of the best watch brands in the world.

Among its accomplishments, we should mention its first Swiss wristwatch, made for Countess Koscowicz of Hungary in 1868, its first wristwatch with perpetual calendar in 1925, and the first all-electronic clock, in 1956. These are, of course, only examples, and you can read more on the company’s website, where you can also browse their collections and choose your favorite watch.

Nice article with some great history notes. I’m not sold on Breitling although they do have some significant contributions and even less on Monte Blanc. Monte Blanc is fine writing instruments but watches? Meh… IMHO if we’re talking luxury watched Audemars Piguet, A. Lange & Söhne, IWC or Jeager LeCoultre would be better fits to fill out a luxury too 5.
